Nassarius Snails (Nassarius vibex)clean up crew creature A Nassarius snail
Nassarius snails hide under the top surfaces of the sand or gravel undetected even when present in large numbers. When any food such as excess fish food or dead animals are detected in the tank they emerge like a tiny aggressive army to rapidly consume it. These snails are very interesting to watch as they search for food and clean the tank. Perfect for cleaning decaying material that may become lodged behind or between live rock. The shallow digging that they exhibit is helpful because it allows beneficial bacteria in the top surfaces of the sand to receive more oxygen thus more effectively control nitrites and ammonia.
