Coral Type: SPS Corals
TO ORDER SPS CORAL FRAGS SCROOL DOWN
We offer a selection of beautiful small polyp stony corals also known as SPS Coral that make a nice addition to a healthy reef tank provided you give them plenty of light. Some small ones are tank propagated, others are aqua-cultured in about 15 foot of water by local islanders in the Solomon Islands and other tropical areas making them heartier than wild harvested specimens. This is of course also more environmentally friendly.
General: These may be considered some of the most beautiful of all reef tank corals, unfortunately, most small polyp stony coral colonies are more demanding than other coral types. So, don’t buy them unless you can provide them with very stable, clean conditions. Many are native to shallow reef areas in the open sea thus are adapted to and need very bright light. Most small polyp stony corals are not adapted to fluctuations in water conditions. They like very low nitrite, nitrate, and phosphate levels and moderate to strong circulation. Small polyp stony corals benefit from good water quality, as is provided with monthly partial water changes using reverse osmosis filtered water. High pH is also important.
Additives: Regularly use additives containing at least strontium, calcium, and iodine.
Circulation: Provide moderate to strong circulation.
Lighting: Very strong lighting is important, use one 175w metal halide light for each two foot of tank space, this is about 6 watts per gallon. Or use at least 6 watts per gallon of power compact lighting. The best choice for these corals is LED lights, other lights such as metal halide that are bright enough for these corals will often produce large amounts of unwanted heat.
Food: Feed them directly using a coral feeding tube. You can try feeding them directly with enriched baby brine shrimp, or enriched rotifers. Small amounts of liquid coral food is easier and more convenient and will provide a wide selection of nutritious ingredients. Only feed them small amounts directly. Assure that unwanted food is all eaten by small fish and marine invertebrates or by complete clean up crews consisting of invertebrates chosen for their ability to clean tanks. If food is uneaten and breaks down in the tank it will pollute the water and could cause corals to turn brown. Never over feed small polyp stony corals, many of these corals can go long periods without being fed.
Placement: Space SPS Corals at least a few inches apart. When they grow you do not want them growing into each other. Place higher up in the tank so they get good lighting.

About tank raised small polyp stony coral frags.
Tank raised specimens are much hardier and easier to keep alive in aquariums than wild collected specimens. Some have been in captivity for generations. Because they have been aqua cultured from fragments they are small, usually around 1 to 2 1/2 inches in height. However, being aqua cultured coral specimens also mean that they do well and grow fast in reef aquarium environments.

The following eight are relatively easy to keep and requires only moderate light compared to some other SPS corals.
